Star Parker: Get Government Out Of Welfare Now!

Stars who despised each other on set

Stars who despised each other on set

When egotistical actors are cooped up together for months on end on a movie set there’s always going to be friction. On the whole though, lavish trailers and massive paychecks help smooth over any niggles. Yet sometimes the angst gets too much for these pampered princes and princesses. They may be actors, but even the most experienced stars can’t hide their genuine dislike of fellow performers.

    Harrison Ford and Josh Hartnett

The legendary Harrison Ford didn’t take too kindly to whippersnapper Josh Hartnett on the set of ‘Hollywood Homicide’. Ford reportedly referred to Harnett as a "punk", with the young actor retaliating by calling the veteran “an old fart”. As a result the pair barely made eye contact during filming and continuously picked on each other at press junkets. The film flopped.

    Megan Fox and Michael Bay

Megan Fox shot herself in the foot when she slammed ‘Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen’ director Michael Bay for focusing on special effects and not acting (probably for the best as it starred Shia LaBeouf and, well, Megan Fox). Bay responded with; “That’s Megan Fox for you. She says some very ridiculous things because she’s 23 years old and she still has a lot of growing to do. You roll your eyes when you see statements like that”. He then didn’t cast her in the next ‘Transformers’ film. Whoops.

    Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey

The two came to despise each other after a massive row on the set of ‘Red Dawn’. When Grey was informed that Swayze would play her on-screen romance in the iconic ‘Dirty Dancing’, she was so upset that she almost pulled out. Eventually though they had a deep heart-to-heart and made friends. Years later Grey broke down into tears on ‘Dancing With The Stars’ as she remembered her time with the late actor.

    Bill Murray and Lucy Liu

Comedy actor Bill Murray couldn’t even raise a smile whilst filming ‘Charlie’s Angels’, as he took a serious dislike to Lucy Liu. It was rumored that Murray thought Liu had an out-of-control ego and he refused to make any appearances in support of the movie when it came out in 2000. He also turned down reprising the role in the sequel, ‘Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle’. In retrospect a good call.

    Bette Davis and Joan Crawford

The granddaddy of Hollywood feuds - Bette Davis and Joan Crawford absolutely loathed one another. While filming ‘What Happened to Baby Jane?’, Davis actually kicked Crawford in the scene when she pushed her down the stairs. In return, when Bette had to drag Joan off her bed, Joan put on a weighted diver's belt underneath her costume, making her heavier to drag.  Naturally, the duo also pitched in with some a-grade bitching. Discussing Davis' hair, Crawfod said: “I don't understand these Poodle cuts on elderly women”. Davis retorted by saying Crawford was “single handedly responsible for the syphilis outbreak in America.” Meow.

Sir Anthony Hopkins and Shirley MacLaine

Anthony Hopkins thought the boisterous Shirley MacLaine was overbearing and was constantly annoyed with her while filming ‘A Change of Seasons’ in 1980.  When asked what she was like, he fumed “she was the most obnoxious actress I have ever worked with." Don’t sugarcoat it Ant!

    Tony Curtis and Marilyn Monroe

Even though Curtis was rumoured to have had an affair with Marilyn Monroe during the making of ‘Some Like It Hot’ in 1959, he still managed to say that "kissing her was like kissing Hitler". She drove him crazy by continually arriving late for filming and always fluffing her lines. To make matter worse, director Billy Wilder would always use Monroe’s best takes while leaving Tony's choice deliveries on the cutting room floor.

    Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes

Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes weren't didn’t exactly see eye to eye by the time ‘Romeo & Juliet’ finished filming. Danes grew tired of DiCaprio's onset pranks, branding him "immature", whilst he found her uptight and prudish. Not exactly star-crossed lovers.

    Marlon Brando and Sophia Loren

Sophia Loren was cool and seductive while Marlon Brando was edgy and angry. Inevitably, when the two came together during the shooting of ‘A Countess from Hong Kong’ in 1966, the fur began to fly. A feud broke out after he asked her, right in the middle of shooting a love scene: "did you know you have hairs up your nostrils?" Smooth.

    Val Kilmer and Tom Sizemore

This feud during filming of ‘Red Planet’ began when Kilmer got annoyed over a fancy exercise machine Sizemore demanded the production ship from England to the set in Australia. Eventually the two hated each other so much Kilmer would reportedly not come out of his trailer if Tom was on the set. Many of their scenes together were even filmed over shoulders of photo doubles, if we are to believe some reports. Also, Kilmer reportedly refused to say Sizemore's character's name, substituting it for things like "Hey, you!".

Jemima Khan Angry on Tiwtter Allegations

Jemima Khan Angry on Tiwtter Allegations

Jemima Khan said she was "trapped in a bloody nightmare" after finding herself at the center of false twitter allegations that she had an affair with Jeremy Clarkson.

hen Jemima Khan tweeted a denial that she had taken out a super-injunction to suppress pictures of herself with Jeremy Clarkson, she unwittingly poured petrol on the flames of the growing row over how Twitter is being used to get round gagging orders being taken out by the rich and famous.

Her first tweet at the weekend ran: "OMG - Rumour that I have a super injunction preventing publication of "intimate" photos of me and Jeremy Clarkson. NOT TRUE!"

Then: "I have no super injunction and I had dinner with Jeremy and his wife last night. Twitter, Stop!" On Monday morning, she tweeted again: "I've woken up trapped in a bloody nightmare."

By then, she was responding to stories in newspapers and other media - including BBC News - that a Twitter user had named several stars that had taken out super-injunctions.

The Daily Mail splashed the story on its front page: "Gagging law stars 'outed' on Twitter: Thousands see the names of celebrities alleged to have taken out injunctions."

The Daily Telegraph printed pictures of Khan and Clarkson on its front page under the headline "Gagging order? Not me, says Jemima."

Some experts professed surprise that the naming of super-injunction stars had suddenly become such a big story.

The BBC's Rory Cellan-Jones, on his personal Twitter feed, wrote: "Rather weird that Twitter has been alive with super-injunction details for weeks - but one new account with inaccurate reports is news."

This was picked up in turn by Roy Greenslade in his Guardian blog: "The sudden discovery that the names of various people whose identities are protected by injunctions are available on Twitter is baffling. Names - some accurate, many inaccurate - have been flying around the net for weeks."

Illuminati Royal Wedding – Kate Gets New Coat Of Arms Complete With Pyramid

Illuminati Royal Wedding – Kate Gets New Coat Of Arms Complete With Pyramid

Kate Middleton’s family has had a coat of arms designed, which will feature on a souvenir royal wedding programme.

Her father Michael commissioned the heraldic design to mark his daughter’s marriage to Prince William on 29 April.

It features three acorn sprigs, one for each of the Middletons’ children: an idea Miss Middleton suggested.
Royal experts say the coat of arms – which cost £4,400 to make – marks the increased social status of her parents and her potential as a future queen.
Thomas Woodcock, Garter Principal King of Arms, from the College of Arms in the City of London, helped the Middletons with the design.
He said the oak tree was a traditional symbol of England and a feature of west Berkshire, where the family have lived for 30 years.
Mr Woodcock said the gold chevron in the centre of the coat of arms signified Miss Middleton’s mother, Carole, whose maiden name was Goldsmith.

Illuminati Slave Katy Perry E.T. Illuminati Symbolism Exposed

Illuminati Slave Katy Perry E.T. Illuminati Symbolism Exposed

     praying to the devil?

Katy Perry’s new music video was jam packed with subliminal imagery, some not so subliminal ones too.
Katy Perry E.T. desensitization and hidden messages

That video is Illuminati agenda. Katy appears as a grey alien (also a ‘demon’ because of the  [satan] legs at the end) that lands on Earth and breeds with the albino black guy (black+white races?) to produce a new hybrid, alien-human race.

This agenda is explained in a few conspiracy books, specially Matrix V . Also research on greys: the fact there is a tall grey in this video says much..
All the prophecies about the return of the Antichrist seem to be converging to 2012. Maybe the Antichrist will be a certain race of aliens (truly demons) that will descend upon Earth to introduce a new race of hybrid humans AFTER the Illuminati fulfill their plans of depopulation. No wonder that this video features a holocaust survivor inside a robotic suit (not sure the symbolism here, but it may have something to do with loss of humanity).

Katy appears at the end of the video with goat legs. Satan is usually depicted as a satyr (best man with goat legs). THe Antichrist has descended upon Earth, breeds with the albino guy and leads him to the “light”. A new world begins.

It’s pretty much in the open. According to prophecies, in the End Times humanity will undergo a transformation or an evolutionary step, perhaps with the help from the aliens. This will be an upgrade of your DNA, this will be “the mark of the beast” as the Bible

at 2:21 purposefully moves hand to satanic hand gesture

Even though the Katy Perry figure hasn’t landed on earth yet, keeps showing scenes from earth as though she is controlling events

Shows no humans on earth having sex or any humans for that matter. Just animals. Maybe this is implying that humans are just animals until they mate with satan’s minions. Trying to get us to think the dna “upgrade” will be a good thing.

falls from the heavens to the earth as did Satan

she mates with a robot or computerized human (singularity?) and at the moment of mating creates a new species (new dna)

AFTER the mating she no longer looks like an alien but has “come clean” with who she really is—Satan.
THIS IS IMPORTANT! They are admitting that et’s are really satanic demons in disguise!!!

Puts on glasses from 2011. Why 2011? Why not 2012? What is the meaning of the sunglasses? To blind from the “illumination” that she is bringing? (she as in satan, who is really a he/she)

    Why a pigeon?

The sunglasses say “Vogue” on the side. Just looked up the meaning of Vogue. So Satanism will become the favorable/popular view?

Since the illuminati went to such lengths to give us this video, let’s keep analyzing and see what we can learn.

I’d recommend viewing with music off, however, it is like a satanic attack, embedded to attach itself to the subconscious. This has been going on for days now with me. I counter it with singing a simple Christian song until it leaves my head. I wish I had never heard it
      Katy Perry - E.T ft. Kanye West ( Exposed analyse ) Illuminati - New - must see - 2011/2012

Katy “I sold my soul” Perry is using the same old occult, freemasonic, All Seeing Eye of Lucifer symbolism again for her new video, E.T., that features Kanye “sold my soul to the devil” West.

The video starts with a robot with a subliminal Eye on its chest, letting you know who controls it.

You’re so hypnotizing. Could you be the devil? Could you be an angel?

Hmmm. That’s what I call a big clue. The devil is a fallen angel, so maybe she’s singing about both.

     EYE, ROBOT

THE CAMERA ZOOMS IN ON THE ROBOT EYE

     KATY PERRY CAN SEE IT!

You open my eyes and I’m ready to go. Lead me into the light.

Freemasons call Lucifer the light bearer. You don’t want to go into that light. You may become illumined, or illuminati, even. But as you’ll notice, at the end Katy marches right into it.

    KATY REPTILIAN EYE

The video pushes the ever popular human/robot hybrid theme when Katy starts making out with the robot inter spliced with scenes of animals having sex. . When the time comes to chip everyone, THEY are hoping this kind of social conditioning will have made it seem like a cool idea. Watch this to understand this is very real.

She even throws in some Monarch programming styled animal dehumanization imagery when she disrobes at the end to reveal she’s a chimera with deer legs.

The happy couple walk off at the end into the light. Is this a depiction of a Brave New World? More like a Slave New World(order).

     WALKING INTO THE LIGHT

There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.

Katy Perry – E.T Satanic symbolism (illuminati exposed)

The album was recorded in 2004, when Katy Perry was 20 years old.[2] In the October 2004 issue of Blender Magazine, they named Perry “The Next Big Thing!”[3] The Matrix worked with the vocalist who contributed to the writing of the music and the lyrics for the songs. Despite the buzz about the album, The Matrix decided to cancel the album weeks before the album’s due date. “Broken” was set to be its first single.[4] In 2009, after the success of Perry’s debut solo album One of the Boys, The Matrix decided to release the album under their own record label, Let’s Hear It Records.

The Matrix is a music production team, consisting of Lauren Christy, Graham Edwards, and Scott Spock. They gained fame in the early 2000s after writing and producing a series of hits for artists including Christina Aguilera, Busted, Hilary Duff, Avril Lavigne, McFly, Jason Mraz, Ashley Tisdale, Shakira, Britney Spears, Skye Sweetnam, and Miranda Cosgrove. They went on to co-write and produce “See You On The Other Side” for Korn which sold over 2 million copies worldwide.

Dollar Bill Reveals 21st Century Illuminati Agenda

Dollar Bill Reveals 21st Century Illuminati Agenda

A Brief History of The Future by Jacques Attali (2006) outlines the elite’s agenda for the 21st Century.

A French Jew (he recently told the European Jewish Congress the world’s Jewish population needs to rise to 200 million),  Attali is a high-level technocrat working to fulfill the New World Order.
Jacques Attali has a varied CV.  For ten years he worked as an adviser to former French President Francois Mitterrand. In 1980, he started the European program Eurêka (a major European program on new technologies that invented, among other things, the MP3).
In 1991, he co-founded the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.  He is also at the origin of the higher education reform, known as LMD, designed to bring all European degrees into line.
He has published over 50 books, selling over 6 million copies worldwide. They include an adoring biography of banker Siegmand Warburg.
He has also written a glowing account of Karl Marx, arguing that Marx was a free-marketeer who favored capitalism as a stepping-stone to his Communist ideal and predicted globalization as we know it today (i.e. the New World Order).
In ‘A Brief History of The Future’ Attali predicts that this century will unfold in three distinct phrases.
    1.   Super-empire = an era of privatization where corporations rule the day.  He writes, “money will finally rid itself of everything that threatens it- including nation states, which it will progressively dismantle.” The market will become the world’s only recognized law. A system of power whose ‘structures remain elusive but whose goal is global.’
    2.   Hyperconflict = super-empire will implode and there will be a period of worldwide chaos. Starting about 2030,  Attali foresees ‘devastating wars, pitting nations, religious groups, terrorist entities, and free-market pirates against one another’.
    3.   Hyperdemocracy (2060)= Exhausted by wars and social upheavals the world public will welcome with open arms ‘the creation of a democratic world government.’ It will be a collectivist system, with everyone working towards the ‘common good.’

    Illuminati Sexuality

In the future, people will no longer bond and create families. ‘The couple will no longer be the principal base for life and sexuality. [People] will prefer to choose, in full transparency, polygamous or polyandrous loves.’
The driving force of this trend is technology that frees youth from parental control. The first was the radio, which allowed the young:
‘To dance outside the ballrooms and therefore be free of parental supervision- liberating sexuality, opening them to all kinds of music, from jazz to rock, and thus announcing youth’s entry into the world of consumption, of desire, and of rebellion.’
A media-dominated culture will create an egocentric populace who ‘will be loyal only to themselves.’
With lovers failing to mate for life, ‘the world will be no more than a juxtaposition of solitudes, and love a juxtaposition of masturbations.’
The elite goal is to remove love from sex so that they control reproduction.  Attali writes that in the twentieth century, society ‘sought to evacuate the reproductive role of sexuality by making motherhood artificial, by using increasingly sophisticated methods- pills, pre-mature labor, in vitro fertilization, surrogate mothers.’
In the future, society ‘will even go so far as to dissociate reproduction and sexuality.  Sexuality will be the kingdom of pleasure, reproduction that of machines.’
Future generations ‘will manufacture the human being like a made-to-measure artifact, in an artificial uterus, which will allow the brain to further develop with characteristics chosen in advance. The human being will thus have become a commercial object.’

    Surveillance

Attali paints a picture of a surveillance society that would make the Stasi wince.
Even our washing machines will be conspiring against us,  while the ‘packaging of food products, clothing vehicles, and household goods will become “communicative.”‘
We will live with untrustworthy robots.
‘Domestic robots will become universal in daily life. They too will be constantly connected to high-output grids in nomadic ubiquity. They will function as domestic help, as aids for the handicapped or aged, as workers and as members of security forces. In particular they will become “Watchers.”‘
All our data will be collected by public and private security firms. The main form of surveillance will be portable entertainment devices. The embryo of this today is the iPhone that sends data to the NSA.
‘The unique nomadic object will be permanently traceable. All the data it contains, including images of everyone’s daily life, will be stored and sold to specialist businesses and to public and private police.’
By 2050, these machines will have evolved into what Attali calls ‘self-surveillance machines’ that will allow everyone to monitor his own compliance with the norms.
We will monitor our consumption of water, energy and raw materials. We will even have the ‘opportunity to measure, permanently or periodically, the parameters of [our] own body.’
‘Electronic bugs, worn subcutaneously, will ceaselessly register heartbeat, blood pressure, and cholesterol. Microprocessors connected to various organs will watch their functioning as compared to the norms.’
Living insecure and chaotic lives, we will be dependent on insurance companies for security. These companies will make sure their clients ‘conform to norms to minimize the risks … They will gradually come to dictate planetary norms (What to eat? What to know? How to drive? How to protect oneself? How to consume? How to produce?)’
    These companies will be ruthless.
‘They will penalize smokers, drinkers, the obese, the unemployable, the inadequately protected, the aggressive, the careless, the clumsy, the absentminded, the spendthrift. Ignorance, exposure to risks, wasting, and vulnerability will be considered diseases.’
Prisons ‘will be gradually replaced by long-distance surveillance of a person under house arrest.’

    Immigration

Immigration flows will expand and submerge nation states. ‘Great Britain will become a major host country, especially for citizens of Central European countries. The latter will in their turn welcome Ukrainian workers, themselves replaced by Russians, themselves replaced by vast Chinese populations.’
Resistant countries will learn that a population inflow ‘is the condition of their survival.’ In a sinister passage, Attali speaks of third-world hordes engulfing the West.
‘Ever more numerous masses will hurl themselves at the gates of the West. They already number hundreds of thousands every month; that figure will increase to millions, then tens of millions.’
The United States will be the most popular destination and ‘In twenty years, the Hispanic and African-American populations will almost constitute a majority in the United States.’
Nomadism will also become the norm in the West, ‘more and more people will leave one country for another: there will soon be more than ten million of them switching countries every year.
Our main incentive will be money, but many will leave because they are disgusted by their homeland.
‘They [will] no longer want to depend on a country whose tax system, legislation, and even culture they reject. And also to disappear completely, to live another life. The world will thus be increasingly filled with people who have become anonymous of their own free will; it will be like a carnival where everyone – ultimate freedom! – will have chosen a new identity for himself.’

    Future Of The US

The dollar will remain dominant until at least 2025, when foreign backers will start abandoning it and ‘the credit pyramid, based on the value of American housing, will collapse.’
The US will then start disintegrating, with violence and chaos ensuing. Attali states, ‘it will not be tomorrow’s Africa that will one day resemble today’s West, but the whole West that could tomorrow evoke today’s Africa.’
The US will then have to redesign its government to regain control.
‘The United States could then become a Scandinavian-style social democracy, or a dictatorship – and even perhaps one after the other. It would not be the first time such a surprise occurred: the first leader to apply the principles required to emerge from the crisis of the [last depression] was Mussolini; the second was Hitler. Roosevelt only came third.’
As chaos and violence engulfs the world, Christianity and Islam will strengthen. The Bible belt region in the Southern US will mobilize and could dominate US politics.
‘The United States could then around 2040 fall prey to a theocratic temptation, explicit or implicit, in the shape of theocratic isolationism in which democracy would be no more than a shadowy presence.’
This Christian movement could be used in a war against a mobilized Islam, which would presumably weaken and discredit both religions.
An international Christian alliance ‘could well form alliances here and there with secular pirates and traffickers in arms, women and drugs.’
This alliance will ‘stand face to face against Islam  – and the struggle will be relentless. They will defend Christians in countries where they are a minority, as in Lebanon, Syria, Iraq and Syria.’
Before the end of century the US will be disintegrated and under the authority of a collectivist world government.

Egypt demonstrators entertain to keep morale high

Two rows of men greet demonstrators at the main entrance to Tahrir Square, clapping as people enter, and chanting in the rhythms of a traditional Egyptian wedding procession.

"We are becoming bigger!" they shout. "God is Great!"

Inside Cairo's main square, musicians stroll, a man reads poetry to the crowd and vendors hawk potato chips, tea, hot food — even socks.

Tahrir Square, the scene of deadly battles with firebombs, rocks, horses and camels just last week, has taken on a carnival mood in the past few days as demonstrators try to establish an enduring presence, complete with food and entertainment, in their campaign to demand Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak's ouster.Fruit vendor Ashraf Gaber, 30, asked people to express themselves in a few words, then wrote their thoughts on pieces of A4 paper he placed on a stack besides him.

Volunteers added it to a collage that spread out before Gaber in a a series of rows held down by rocks.

"We have to make the people happy!" Gaber shouted. "Express what is in your hearts!" he told the crowd.

"Oh Mubarak, you are a shoe!" read one — a particularly stinging insult in Arab culture.

"An Interior Ministry of Thugs!" read another.

Nearby, crowds of young men and women cheered and sung as Fadi Mikhael, 29, strummed an oud — or Arabic lute — to a Western beat.

"We won't be quiet! Raise your voice!" he sang on a stage, his voice amplified by four powerful speakers. The crowd clapped and repeated the chorus.

Poetry writing and recitation is a popular Arab pastime, a manifestation of pride in a language that's rich with subtle shades of meaning and unifies a people of different ethnic backgrounds and two major faiths.

There is a regional satellite television talent show just for poets — with viewers in the millions — and others dedicated to poets mocking each other in verse.

On another impromptu stage, a middle-aged man read poetry into a microphone as another crowd clapped at his ability to cleverly rhyme the stanzas.

"I am a peasant with a sheaf of wheat/I give it to the people generously," he read.

Nearby, demonstrators used stones, once used to repel pro-Mubarak supporters, to spell out slogans on the ground.

The command "Leave!" in Arabic spelled covered a few square feet (meters) of the square. The latest addition: "70 Billion" — the Mubarak family's rumored wealth.

Vendors sold dates, plastic cups of hot tea, socks — three pairs for $2 — sesame-seed snacks, potato chips and juice. Young men and women gathered in circles, debating the day's events. Before Jan. 25., Egyptians would not have dreamt of discussing politics so openly.

"We are learning a culture of respectful disagreement here," said Nashat Cross, 28, a Christian who works as a translator. "The level of cultured discussion is something I really admire."

From time to time, somebody in the crowd would begin chanting anti-Mubarak slogans, and hundreds of others joined in, clapping.

Men sometimes bellydanced on the side to the rhythm of the chants.

Another procession of men stood at the exit, waving the red-white-and-black Egyptian flag, banging drums, blowing on harmonicas and singing, again, like an Egyptian wedding procession.

"You'll come back, wont you?" they chanted. "You'll come back to liberate us!"Source URL: http://outlawrepublican.blogspot.com/search/label/government

The Ruling Class Vs. The Country Class

America's Ruling Class -- And the Perils of Revolution

    By Angelo M. Codevilla

As over-leveraged investment houses began to fail in September 2008, the leaders of the Republican and Democratic parties, of major corporations, and opinion leaders stretching from the National Review magazine (and the Wall Street Journal) on the right to the Nation magazine on the left, agreed that spending some $700 billion to buy the investors' "toxic assets" was the only alternative to the U.S. economy's "systemic collapse." In this, President George W. Bush and his would-be Republican successor John McCain agreed with the Democratic candidate, Barack Obama. Many, if not most, people around them also agreed upon the eventual commitment of some 10 trillion nonexistent dollars in ways unprecedented in America. They explained neither the difference between the assets' nominal and real values, nor precisely why letting the market find the latter would collapse America. The public objected immediately, by margins of three or four to one.

When this majority discovered that virtually no one in a position of power in either party or with a national voice would take their objections seriously, that decisions about their money were being made in bipartisan backroom deals with interested parties, and that the laws on these matters were being voted by people who had not read them, the term "political class" came into use. Then, after those in power changed their plans from buying toxic assets to buying up equity in banks and major industries but refused to explain why, when they reasserted their right to decide ad hoc on these and so many other matters, supposing them to be beyond the general public's understanding, the American people started referring to those in and around government as the "ruling class." And in fact Republican and Democratic office holders and their retinues show a similar presumption to dominate and fewer differences in tastes, habits, opinions, and sources of income among one another than between both and the rest of the country. They think, look, and act as a class.

Although after the election of 2008 most Republican office holders argued against the Troubled Asset Relief Program, against the subsequent bailouts of the auto industry, against the several "stimulus" bills and further summary expansions of government power to benefit clients of government at the expense of ordinary citizens, the American people had every reason to believe that many Republican politicians were doing so simply by the logic of partisan opposition. After all, Republicans had been happy enough to approve of similar things under Republican administrations. Differences between Bushes, Clintons, and Obamas are of degree, not kind. Moreover, 2009-10 establishment Republicans sought only to modify the government's agenda while showing eagerness to join the Democrats in new grand schemes, if only they were allowed to. Sen. Orrin Hatch continued dreaming of being Ted Kennedy, while Lindsey Graham set aside what is true or false about "global warming" for the sake of getting on the right side of history. No prominent Republican challenged the ruling class's continued claim of superior insight, nor its denigration of the American people as irritable children who must learn their place. The Republican Party did not disparage the ruling class, because most of its officials are or would like to be part of it.

Never has there been so little diversity within America's upper crust. Always, in America as elsewhere, some people have been wealthier and more powerful than others. But until our own time America's upper crust was a mixture of people who had gained prominence in a variety of ways, who drew their money and status from different sources and were not predictably of one mind on any given matter. The Boston Brahmins, the New York financiers, the land barons of California, Texas, and Florida, the industrialists of Pittsburgh, the Southern aristocracy, and the hardscrabble politicians who made it big in Chicago or Memphis had little contact with one another. Few had much contact with government, and "bureaucrat" was a dirty word for all. So was "social engineering." Nor had the schools and universities that formed yesterday's upper crust imposed a single orthodoxy about the origins of man, about American history, and about how America should be governed. All that has changed.

Today's ruling class, from Boston to San Diego, was formed by an educational system that exposed them to the same ideas and gave them remarkably uniform guidance, as well as tastes and habits. These amount to a social canon of judgments about good and evil, complete with secular sacred history, sins (against minorities and the environment), and saints. Using the right words and avoiding the wrong ones when referring to such matters -- speaking the "in" language -- serves as a badge of identity. Regardless of what business or profession they are in, their road up included government channels and government money because, as government has grown, its boundary with the rest of American life has become indistinct. Many began their careers in government and leveraged their way into the private sector. Some, e.g., Secretary of the Treasury Timothy Geithner, never held a non-government job. Hence whether formally in government, out of it, or halfway, America's ruling class speaks the language and has the tastes, habits, and tools of bureaucrats. It rules uneasily over the majority of Americans not oriented to government.

The two classes have less in common culturally, dislike each other more, and embody ways of life more different from one another than did the 19th century's Northerners and Southerners -- nearly all of whom, as Lincoln reminded them, "prayed to the same God." By contrast, while most Americans pray to the God "who created and doth sustain us," our ruling class prays to itself as "saviors of the planet" and improvers of humanity. Our classes' clash is over "whose country" America is, over what way of life will prevail, over who is to defer to whom about what. The gravity of such divisions points us, as it did Lincoln, to Mark's Gospel: "if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand."

    The Political Divide

Important as they are, our political divisions are the iceberg's tip. When pollsters ask the American people whether they are likely to vote Republican or Democrat in the next presidential election, Republicans win growing pluralities. But whenever pollsters add the preferences "undecided," "none of the above," or "tea party," these win handily, the Democrats come in second, and the Republicans trail far behind. That is because while most of the voters who call themselves Democrats say that Democratic officials represent them well, only a fourth of the voters who identify themselves as Republicans tell pollsters that Republican officeholders represent them well. Hence officeholders, Democrats and Republicans, gladden the hearts of some one-third of the electorate -- most Democratic voters, plus a few Republicans. This means that Democratic politicians are the ruling class's prime legitimate representatives and that because Republican politicians are supported by only a fourth of their voters while the rest vote for them reluctantly, most are aspirants for a junior role in the ruling class. In short, the ruling class has a party, the Democrats. But some two-thirds of Americans -- a few Democratic voters, most Republican voters, and all independents -- lack a vehicle in electoral politics.

Sooner or later, well or badly, that majority's demand for representation will be filled. Whereas in 1968 Governor George Wallace's taunt "there ain't a dime's worth of difference" between the Republican and Democratic parties resonated with only 13.5 percent of the American people, in 1992 Ross Perot became a serious contender for the presidency (at one point he was favored by 39 percent of Americans vs. 31 percent for G.H.W. Bush and 25 percent for Clinton) simply by speaking ill of the ruling class. Today, few speak well of the ruling class. Not only has it burgeoned in size and pretense, but it also has undertaken wars it has not won, presided over a declining economy and mushrooming debt, made life more expensive, raised taxes, and talked down to the American people. Americans' conviction that the ruling class is as hostile as it is incompetent has solidified. The polls tell us that only about a fifth of Americans trust the government to do the right thing. The rest expect that it will do more harm than good and are no longer afraid to say so.

While Europeans are accustomed to being ruled by presumed betters whom they distrust, the American people's realization of being ruled like Europeans shocked this country into well nigh revolutionary attitudes. But only the realization was new. The ruling class had sunk deep roots in America over decades before 2008. Machiavelli compares serious political diseases to the Aetolian fevers -- easy to treat early on while they are difficult to discern, but virtually untreatable by the time they become obvious.

Far from speculating how the political confrontation might develop between America's regime class -- relatively few people supported by no more than one-third of Americans -- and a country class comprising two-thirds of the country, our task here is to understand the divisions that underlie that confrontation's unpredictable future. More on politics below.

    The Ruling Class

Who are these rulers, and by what right do they rule? How did America change from a place where people could expect to live without bowing to privileged classes to one in which, at best, they might have the chance to climb into them? What sets our ruling class apart from the rest of us?

The most widespread answers -- by such as the Times's Thomas Friedman and David Brooks -- are schlock sociology. Supposedly, modern society became so complex and productive, the technical skills to run it so rare, that it called forth a new class of highly educated officials and cooperators in an ever less private sector. Similarly fanciful is Edward Goldberg's notion that America is now ruled by a "newocracy": a "new aristocracy who are the true beneficiaries of globalization -- including the multinational manager, the technologist and the aspirational members of the meritocracy." In fact, our ruling class grew and set itself apart from the rest of us by its connection with ever bigger government, and above all by a certain attitude.

Other explanations are counterintuitive. Wealth? The heads of the class do live in our big cities' priciest enclaves and suburbs, from Montgomery County, Maryland, to Palo Alto, California, to Boston's Beacon Hill as well as in opulent university towns from Princeton to Boulder. But they are no wealthier than many Texas oilmen or California farmers, or than neighbors with whom they do not associate -- just as the social science and humanities class that rules universities seldom associates with physicians and physicists. Rather, regardless of where they live, their social-intellectual circle includes people in the lucrative "nonprofit" and "philanthropic" sectors and public policy. What really distinguishes these privileged people demographically is that, whether in government power directly or as officers in companies, their careers and fortunes depend on government. They vote Democrat more consistently than those who live on any of America's Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Streets. These socioeconomic opposites draw their money and orientation from the same sources as the millions of teachers, consultants, and government employees in the middle ranks who aspire to be the former and identify morally with what they suppose to be the latter's grievances.
