Why Health Care Will Never Be Equal - By Gregory Mankiw

This semester, I am taking Principles of Macroeconomics at college. I found an excellent editorial related to the health care debate written by Gregory Mankiw, who actually wrote my college textbook. As I found it very interesting, I hope that you do, also.

EVERY morning, I take a small white pill that makes me think deep philosophical thoughts about the American health care system, the value of life, and the relationship between man and state. No, it is not some illegal psychedelic left over from the 1960s along with my tie-dyed T-shirts. But if you bear with me, I bet this pill will have the same effect on you.

The pill is a statin — a type of pharmaceutical developed over the last few decades to lower a person’s cholesterol. My father died of cardiovascular disease, and unfortunately I inherited his genetic predisposition. Yet I am hoping that modern medicine will help me avoid his fate. So like millions of middle-age men, I take my little pill every morning.

Here is the question I ask as the pill passes through my lips: Is it worth it?
Now you might be tempted to say, “Of course it is.” Most people would prefer to avoid an early death. If the wonders of modern science might put off the inevitable for a while longer, why not give it a shot?

And that is, indeed, how I thought about the decision when my doctor recommended the treatment. One thing I did not consider was the price. Like most consumers of health care, I was insulated from economic concerns. I knew that the insurance company — and, indirectly, all its policyholders — would pick up most of the tab. This arrangement, encouraged by the tax system, ensures that I get the benefit of the pills while paying little of the extra costs they generate.

An optimist might hope that my doctor, or someone higher up in the health care hierarchy, made a rational cost-benefit calculation on society’s behalf. To figure out whether my treatment makes sense, one would have to weigh the cost of the drug against the benefit of an extended life. And to do that, one would have to put a dollar value on my life — the kind of calculation that makes everyone but economists squirm.

Not long ago, I read that a physician estimated that statins cost $150,000 for each year of life saved. That approximate figure reflects not only the dollars patients and insurance companies spend on the treatment but also — and just as important — an estimate of how effective it is in prolonging life. (That number is for men. Women have a lower risk of heart disease.)

That estimate is, at best, approximate, but it certainly suggests that preventive care is not always cheap. The magnitude of the figure also brings to mind hard questions of political philosophy. CONTINUEDSource URL: http://outlawrepublican.blogspot.com/search/label/H.R.%203200

Just Say NO to Planned Parenthood Invading Schools

    JUST SAY NO TO

    BEING IN OUR
    SCHOOLS

Do you as parents really want Planned Parenthood in your child/childrens public school? Hell NO!!There is a high probability that this will happen if H.R. 3200 is passed in congress. In section 2511 (pages 993-1001) of H.R. 3200, there is a provision that is made for "School-Based Health Clinics (SBHC)." 'Under the provisions of this section, the Secretary of Health and Human Services is directed to “establish a school-based health clinic program” which will locate clinics “in, or...adjacent to a school facility” a clinic which is “administered by a sponsoring facility.” '

A "sponsoring facility" can be a hospital, a public health department, a community health center, or a nonprofit agency. This is where Planned Parenthood comes into play. Planned Parenthood is a non for profit (c) (3) organization that proudly grandstands the fact they operate "850 health centers" across the United States. "Under H.R. 3200, each one of these “health centers” is eligible to become a “sponsoring facility” of a school-based health clinic."

With President Obama and Secretary of Health & Human Services Kathleen Sebelius being staunch supporters of abortion rights, how much of a chance do you think there is that they choose not to take advantage of this opportunity to indoctrinate and propogandize school kids into their pro-choice army? I think that it is very likely that this exact thing will happen. My suggestion is to take your kids out of public schools before they are brainwashed with liberalism garbage. We must stop this bill from being passed in any form. This is only one example of how Obama and his administration want to squash your parental rights and propogandize your kids into believing that being "Pro-Choice" is the right way to go. Abortion is evil. Abortion is wrong. All life is precious, especially the UNBORN. Parents, this is the time to stand up for your children and fight against this bill. This provision is one more example of the type of control and indoctrination Obama wants to have over your kids. This is utterly outrageous!!

And, Yes, these clinics will be federally funded. Your taxpayer dollars will go to this horrendous propoganda that promotes the murder of our most precious babies. This bill expressly says that “funds awarded under a grant under this section” may be used for “the payment of salaries for health professionals and other appropriate SBHC personnel.” Hell, freakin, NO!! I am not paying tax dollars to fund anything related to Planned Parenthood. In addition, the Secretary of HHS is directed to “begin awarding grants” for these SBHCs “not later than July 1, 2010.”

July 1, 2010.” So, we must stop this NOW!!! This must be made known to the public. The Obama administration is ready to start the process of indoctrinating kids even before the bill would go into effect, if passed. This bill must be stopped. This bill is not about health care. This bill is about power and control. And, if they can get their hands on your kids and control kids thoughts and their value systems, instead of the parent, then the parent is screwed. Parents, I hope you fight back against this intrusion into your kids lives and fight for your right to teach your kids what principles and values you see fit. Don't let this administration encroach on your parental rights.Source URL: http://outlawrepublican.blogspot.com/search/label/H.R.%203200

Obama The Misrepresenter-in-Chief, Abortion is in Health Care Bill

It is just sad, despicable, and horrendous that anyone would want to kill this liitle person just out of pure selfishness and in the name of "choice." We need to stop the holocaust on unborn babies!!

The health care legislation in the House and Senate under a new "public" insurance plan option would allow for abortions. The Capps Amendment that was just recntly passed by the House and Energy Committee states that abortions "shall" be covered by the "public-option"plan. And, leaves the types of abortions to be covereed under the health care plan up to the secretary of Health and Human Services which is Kathleen Sebelius. Sebelius is one of the most extreme abortion rights advocates in the nation. She supported the late term abortionist Tiller. That's just how radical and extreme she is. So, obviously she's going to advocate to provide federal financial aid and incentives in the bill for abortions. In fact, Obama has said that "reproductive services" will be included in the health care bill, and unless the bill specifically says that it will prohibit abortions than the bill WILL cover abortions. So, Obama the Misrepresenter-in- Chief is wrong about there being no funding for abortion in Obamacare. He has been misrepresenting what it is in Obamacare. NOT US CONSERVATIVES!!! WE, conservatives are revealing all of the democrats lies, misrepresentations, distortions etc. in regards to their bogus claims about Obamacare. Plus, if low to moderate income citizens choose the "public-Plan" they would qualify for federal subsidies to purchase it. In addition, private plans that cover abortion could be purchased with the assistance from federal subsidies. Therefore, what the President calls "fabrications" are not what he claims. But in fact the reality of the situation is that Obama was/is wrong. Obama and the Democrats have tried to hide this language in the bill regarding abortion to give the illusion that abortion isn't covered in the bill, when in actuality it is. Don't you just love all this magic and trickery being performed by the Obama administration?

Steven Crowder Infiltrates the Angry Mob

Steven Crowder infiltrates an angry mob at a health care town hall in Texas. Pelosi, Durbin, and Democrats have called town hall protesters an angry mob. The truth is that these town hall protesters are asking important questions and expressing emotions since Congress have been refusing to answer legitimate questions. Pelosi and Democrats consistently distort reality and this is yet another example of that.Source URL: http://outlawrepublican.blogspot.com/search/label/H.R.%203200
